Clevechem Pharmacy was created by pharmacists in Redcar to service the pharmacy needs of the new Redcar Health Centre in Coatham Road. The business opened in 1976 and continued within that building until its closure in 2009.The pharmacy was one of the first examples of a consortium pharmacy in England and the model was subsequently used as an example throughout the UK. This type of pharmacy was jointly owned by the other pharmacies in the town and allowed it to support the continued existence of a network of pharmacies around the town. The business relocated to the new Redcar Primary Care Hospital in 2010 where it nows operates.
